Foundation Stage
Welcome to Early Years at Sacred Heart Primary School.
Early Years Leader: Miss Trevette

In FSJ your teacher is Miss Morgan and your TA is Mrs Anderson.
The Early Years Foundation Stage is a developmental framework, different to the National Curriculum in Years 1 to 6. We observe, support and extend skills across the seven areas of learning, through a creative curriculum and a purposeful play based approach. We want all the children to be confident learners who love coming to school every day.
These areas are grouped into two categories – Prime areas and Specific areas.
The prime areas are important because they lay the foundations for children’s success in all other areas of learning and of life:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language
The specific areas provide the range of experiences and opportunities for children to broaden their knowledge and skills:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
A typical day in our setting looks like this:
• Being led by children’s interests as well as our knowledge of what we want the children to experience and be able to do, we create purposeful and meaningful experiences in both our indoor and outdoor learning environments.
•A daily Read Write Inc phonics lesson, as well as daily maths focus activities and lessons linked to RE and the other areas of learning take place throughout the week. The children develop skills in these areas through a balance of child and adult led experiences and exploring through play together.
•The class teachers and teaching assistants work together to provide high quality provision and experiences that support every child’s needs and interests.
Parents as Partners: Your child's learning journey at school will be shared through conversations we have with you, and an app called Tapestry. We will share some individual and group observations throughout the year so you can see how your child is accessing areas of learning, as well as activities to do at home and key information.

We look forward to working alongside you all throughout your child's first year at Sacred Heart.
