Saint Francis Leprosy Guild
World Leprosy Day falls on the last Sunday of January each year. In January, Sister Eileen came into school to lead assemblies about the work of the St Francis Leprosy Guild in supporting those with leprosy. She spoke about the continued stigma around leprosy and the work her charity does to try to remove this. Sister Eileen then did some work with our Mini Vinnies.
Eileen spoke to the children about how leprosy is still around in the world today and although there is no cure, it can be treated with antibiotics. Eileen spoke to the children about the stigma surrounding leprosy and the work her charity does to try and remove this. She then went onto work with our Mini Vinnies looking at the work and life of different saints including the Mini Vinnies patron saint, St Vincent De Paul. Children created wonderful art work around this. It was lovely to hear the children talk about their own qualities and how they try to live like saints.
After she left, I received a lovely email from Eileen;
What a pleasure to visit your school today. All the students were fab! You could feel the culture of 'a love of learning' present in the school and in the way the students responded to questions!
It is lovely that all our visitors speak so highly of the children and that they leave a lasting impression on them.
