Catholic Life and Mission

Sacred Heart RC Primary School

We are preparing our children to be saints - the people that God created them to be - by ensuring that we provide them with an outstanding education and offer them a wealth of opportunities and experiences to enable them to become good, happy people and have “fullness of life” (John 10:10).

Sacred Heart is a Catholic Primary School where we serve the Catholic community of Whetstone. We welcome children and staff of all faiths where we celebrate and learn from one another. We follow our mission statement of ‘Learning together in God’s love.'

Inspired by Christian values, we aim to provide love and security within a curriculum designed to meet the needs of all individuals, in order to prepare them to take place in the ever changing world of today and tomorrow.

We want our learners to learn the essential knowledge and skills which help them to form positive, caring and loving relationships with all children and adults within the school community, while loving the process of learning.

Religious Education is the core subject in the curriculum and provides our pupils the chance to deepen their relationship with God As a Catholic School, we devote 10% of curriculum time to the teaching of Religious Education; this is separate from times of prayer and collective worship, liturgies and class prayer, which happen in addition to the taught curriculum.  The aim is to help promote knowledge and understanding of catholic faith and life. It also allows them to develop an awareness and understanding of how their faith impacts their daily life. By learning about the catholic religion as well as others, we hope to foster attitudes of respect towards all who live in our society. Throughout their time here, pupils will have the opportunity to learn about Sikhism, Islam, Hinduism and Judaism.

We aim to be a welcoming school and part of the wider community.  We have strong links with our parish church, and our children visit our church regularly. We encourage our children to care of God's world and its people by developing empathy, sympathy and a need to live their faith through charitable works. Our Mini Vinnies are a group of KS2 children who work together to support our local and wider community. As a school, we fundraise for different charities such as McMillian Cancer research, CAFOD as well as local charities.

Our pupils support wider initiatives such as Just One Tree day where money is raised to plant a million trees in Poland and Europe and beyond to help climate change. We encourage the pupils to take an active role in their future but teaching them how to love and care and respect all things around us.

It is our aim that children leave Sacred Heart School as resilient, respectful, confident, thoughtful and independent young people, prepared for the next stage on their journey towards leading a fulfilled life in the presence of God.
